Tapelark finds a station, records its stream and saves every song as its own file in a library on your Mac. The station doesn't have to play out loud: listen to something else, or mute the Mac, while it records.

How it works

  1. Open Radio (⌘2) and search the public station directory by name, genre, country or bit rate.
  2. Click Record. Tapelark records the station's own stream, not the sound of your Mac, so nothing else you play ends up in the recording.
  3. Whenever the station sends song titles, Tapelark saves one file per song, named after the artist and the title, with the station as the album. The first and the last file are usually partial songs.
  4. Your songs appear in the Library: browse them by artist, album or genre, edit the tags, trim them, or export them to a folder or a USB stick.

What you get

  • The station's own format. Tapelark records MP3 and AAC streams and keeps them as they arrive, without re-encoding, with the title, the artist and the station written into the file.
  • Schedules. Record a show once, or every week on the days you choose: schedule a radio recording.
  • Favourites and the menu bar. Star a station to keep it in your Favourites, and stop a radio recording from the menu bar.
  • Private by design. Your recordings stay on your Mac. Tapelark doesn't upload, share or stream them, and sends no usage data.

Questions

Does the station have to keep playing?

No. Tapelark records the stream itself, so you can listen to something else or mute the Mac.

Can it record every station?

Tapelark records MP3 and AAC streams. Stations that stream only in HTTP Live Streaming, Ogg, Vorbis, Opus or FLAC are marked Play only: Tapelark can play them but not record them yet. When the directory lists another stream of the same station that Tapelark can record, it offers that one and asks first.

Which Mac do I need?

macOS 14.4 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.

What does it cost?

Try every feature free for 14 days. Until you buy Tapelark, each recording stops after 10 minutes, in the trial too, and everything recorded is saved. One licence is for one person on all their Macs: see the prices.

Am I allowed to record radio?

Tapelark is for your own private listening. Follow the terms of the stations you listen to and the copyright law where you live. More about private use.
